Why is my lenovo Yoga 730 15IWL only working when plugged in?

My lenovo Yoga 730 15IWL only works when plugged in. It constantly shows a 73% charge. Does not charge more than that and as soon as I unplug it, it shuts off. I already tried removing the battery and putting it back in, deleting and re-installing the drivers and BIOS but nothing works. Does anybody know a fix for this? Could it be that the battery is not good anymore?

Hi @grey20

It may be that the battery is failing and needs to be replaced.

Create a battery report to check the status of the battery.

When you have the report, compare the design capacity value versus the full charge capacity value.

For a good battery they should be nearly the same.

If it is determined that the battery is failing, here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. Go to p.32 to view the procedure to remove/replace the battery.

The Lenovo part number is usually found printed on the battery, so search online using the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best. If you can't find a part number use the battery's make and model number.

@jayeff, hi. I did the report, the full charge capacity says 43,781 mWh and the design capacity says 51,600 mWh. Is this considered good?

さんによる

@grey20 Well this tells us that the full charge capacity is down by 15%. How old is the laptop?

さんによる

I bought it second hand like 4 months ago. I had no issues until the past week that this started happening

@grey20

It may be a bit hard without knowing its' history, but even though is shows that the full charge is now only approx. 85% of its' design charge this doesn't mean that the battery is still OK.

For example it still might fail to handle the load even though it says that it is charged.

You may have to replace the battery to see whether it is the problem or not.

Have you opened the laptop and visually checked the battery to make sure that it is OK i.e. not swollen etc?

さんによる

Yes, I already opened up the laptop. The battery seems fine from what I can see. Yesterday I brought the laptop to a tech repair shop. Hopefully they will be able to figure out the problem
