1 How to set the ignition timing on a 22r carburator engine
- How do I set the ignition timing on my 85 Toyota 4x4 pickup. After I set the timing at ideal when I give it gas it back fires and if I drive it to give it some load it back fires. It also back fires and smokes more when I give it gas while sitting still in my driveway.
Do you have Chilton or Haynes for reference? Your local library may have info
either in paperback or online. Tried searching for Toyota 4x4 forums? Owners there share free info and may have more info than anyone here not completely familiar with '85 Toyota pickup trucks. Some things to be concerned about timing, presuming yours uses a distributor; spark plug firing order (plug wiring to distributor cap, top dead center relative to timing marks on crankshaft and distributor timing for cylinder#1.
