Random powering up, then off on unplugging to start the cycle over

Hi - my Daughter’s Macbook Air is acting strangely. It only powers up when plugged in, and then intermittently. I will have it plugged in (tried various chargers), and it stays off even with the various online reset keystroke options. Then it will boot up and show charging. But, even hours later, if you unplug it it immediately goes black. Then it starts the cycle again, no boot up while plugged in, until maybe at some point it just does. Thanks for any input.

This sounds like it may be kernel panicking. I will also note, if this is a late 2020 model (which has the M1 processor, you can verify this by checking the fn key in the lower left part of the keyboard, if it has a globe icon, it is an M1 model) the traditional button combo type resets no longer apply/use different combos.

If it is kernel panicking, you can check for panic logs using the console app. Or you can download etrecheck which is an app runs some more automated checks for this sort of info.
