Touch ID works, but not the power button

As the title suggests, I have a strange problem with my MacBook air. For approximately 8 months ago, I spilled a little liquid on the machine. I cleaned the MacBook, and it all seemed fine. The only damage was one of the USB c port not woking. After a couple of months, all of a sudden the computer refused to turn on. Even though you could hear the charging sound when plugging in the charger. After a while as mysterious as it sounds the MacBook turn back on! But now the power button don't work, but the integrated touch ID works just fine. In addition the MacBook now have the “in need of service" notification on the battery bar. Since the power button doesn't work, everytime the mac runs out of power, I have to “kick start" it by plugging in the charger, the mac then powers back on.

Have anyone a clue what could be the problem? If I understand correctly, in order to replace the power button/Touch ID the chip also have to be replaced?

Best regards Ken

Oh boy! Time to get your system to Apple!

This is a bigger problem as you can’t replace the part without also needing to replace the logic board too! As the TouchID within the button is tied to the logic board as such you can’t replace one without the other.

Sometimes the audio board and flex wich is connected to the Touch ID power button get damaged, replace board and flex and you will be fine.
