No video, audio or vibrate. Have I damaged the motherboard?

I followed the guide to replace the Lightning connector. The ribbon cable (for charging the battery etc) seemed be almost impossible to snap-in. Must’ve been part of a bad lot!

It just keeps popping back out. The original part’s (once removed from the iPhone) ribbon cable snaps in very easily.

I think I may have applied too much pressure trying to get it in. Now when I power on the iPhone I see absolutely no indication that it is powered on. No display, no audio, no vibrate etc. It looks and acts like an iPhone that is switched off completely.

I can verify that it IS powered-on though by dialling the iPhone (I don’t have a SIM PIN).

I have another functioning iPhone 6s to hand and tried swapping around the displays etc. All the test indicate the problem is inherent to the iPhone itself.

Is there anything more I can do? Or is the motherboard damaged? It’s hardly a coincidence that all these things happen at once.

Thanks.

As long as you disconnected the battery before removing or replacing the other connectors your logic board should be fine.

You have another iPhone 6s so you can rule out the logic board by installing it in the other housing. That is what we would do. But being a 6s if you didn’t disconnect the battery first before removing the other connectors I think you will find that it is a damaged backlight circuit on the logic board

Yeah, the battery was disconnected for almost the entire operation. I can remember powering on the iPhone, seeing the apple logo and then noticing that the connector for the Lightning connector component had popped out once again!!

I tried to put it back in, but must’ve used too much pressure (or created a short-circuit of some type). The other iPhone belongs to somebody else. Swapping around the logic boards is certainly do-able but I”ll still be one short.

I have compared the two connectors and the new one seems to have an ever-so-slightly different shape (relative to the original one). Bad luck!

A replacement logic board is about €90 on eBay. I might just be better off buying a used iPhone with a damaged screen and end-of-life battery for half that price and re-claiming its motherboard (so long as its not iCloud locked).

If you are going to purchase another logic board make sure it comes with the home button.
