MacBook Pro restarting when unplugged

Hello everyone,

I have a Macbook Pro - 13inch Retina- that keeps restarting when I pull the cord. Few things to mention:

  • The battery is not dead. It runs perfectly fine for long periods when unplugged.
  • I have reset the SMC multiple times with the help of Apple support on phone.
  • I have erased the Mac clean and installed a fresh OS. Thereby eliminating any software issue or kernel panic (I hope)
  • I have the set the system into "Safe Mode", "Recovery Mode", "Diagnostic Mode"and every time I remove the power. the system restarts.
  • I have run diagnostics and there were no errors.
  • I have replaced the DC-In Board with a new one and problem is still the same.

Please tell me if I am not doing something correct.

Thank you.

There is nothing you can do to fix this externally. Your issue is the MOSFET switching logic which control the direction the power is sent from the MagSafe charger to the battery as well as how the system is powered has been damaged.

Do make sure you have a REAL Apple charger as often I find the MOSFET’s logic get damaged by using a knockoff charger! Many sold online are knockoffs even the ones that claim to be real Apple units.

Here’s the proper charger Apple 60W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (MacBook Pro with 13-inch Retina display) Only buy directly from Apple.

Time to find someone who fixes MacBook Pro logic boards locally.
