Intermitten spark, turns on and runs, other times, no sparks
The Jeep was running fine then one day as I was driving down the street, it turned off while I was driving. I pulled over and it wouldn't start. After a while it started. I took off and got home. Through the days, the same problem would arise, going down the Hwy. 60 miles an hour it would just turn off! Sometimes, it would start a few minutes later, sometimes 20, 30 minutes later but it would eventually always start.
So one time as I was getting home it happened again and I was able coast in to my drive way. I had a friend come and crank the motor while I was checking the coil to distributor wire and there was no spark. So, it was an electrical problem. I changed the distributor cap, rotor, pickup coil and Crank shaft sensor. For a couple of days, it work with no problem, so I thought I had it fixed. Then, it happened again. Back to square one.
The fuel pump turns on for a few seconds like it should when I turn on the key, every single time I turn on the key. I checked the schrader valve on the fuel injectors and it gave pressured gas out of it. So, I believe that it's not gas related.
So this is where I'm at. Anyone else has had this kind of problem? Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Thank you very much---Victor
Thank you very much for your answers and I will follow up on the possible problems.
One thing I completely forgot to include is that for a while my gas gauge goes crazy sometimes, now, this was happening before my current problem, just to let you know. I might have 1/2 a tank of gas but when I turn it on sometimes it shows that Its close to empty yet when I turn it off and turn it on again, it will revert to the correct position. It happens often. Though it shows that its empty, I know that it has 1/2 a tank and it runs, so I still believe that its not a fuel problem.
Could that be a PCM problem or a sending unit problem?
Thank you very much ---Victor

It sounds like a sending unit problem, its also a lot cheaper to start there. It should not be directly related to it, unless you are having a short circuit in the fuel delivery unit, which could cut out your fuel supply....
