The screen broke, but I don't know the cause

A long time ago, I put the laptop away on a shelf for a few months and when I took it down again, the screen was almost fully busted. Only about a quarter of the screen on the left side was still visible, and the bottom half was red. Soon after, this half began to mimic the graphics on the upper half. Later, that last quarter broke. There is what I am guessing is screen fluid along the middle of the screen. This is an image of what the screen looks like now.

Hi,

Was something placed on top of the laptop at any time when it was on the shelf or maybe was it dropped?

It looks like the screen has been cracked.

@jayeff

I didn't have anything on the laptop that could weigh enough to smash it, and it didn't get dropped, by my knowledge, at least. What's more, the screen was perfectly fine when I put it away.

Hi @michaeld2

The only other thing that I can think of that may crack a screen is if it is stored in a very cold place (-20 to -40C) the temperature might crack it due to expansion of the liquid in it or if it was stored in a cold place then it may crack when it is powered on due to the sudden change, especially if there was a minor crack in it already.

Other than that something may have happened to it that you have been unaware of
