Can I add a blade SSD to my system?

Hello,

I have several questions, I have the 2012 21.5” iMac 13,1 (A1418 / EMC 2544)

Is it be possible to place any M.2 in the slot that is empty on the board, I do not know if it is PCIe and leave the hard disk originally brought from 1TB for the files

I do not know if it would be necessary to place an adapter to accept the M.2,

I would like the information since I’m in a hurry to update it

thanks

Sadly I don’t think your system has the needed blade SSD slot hardware to support the custom Apple SSD. Only the Fusion Drive’d systems or systems which where sold with an SSD from the start have the blade SSD already present and you can’t add the missing hardware to support it.

For reference here is a picture of the HD models logic board

And here’s the same logic board from a Fusion Drive’d or SSD system

The best you can do is get an external drive or look at getting a new system which offers the blade SSD. Be aware the blade SSD in this series is not very fast as its only a SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) mSATA.

ok I understand, I have a program that says a large part of what the imac has but it caught my attention when it says "storage 1tb (5400-rpm sata), 1 tb fusion drive, or 256 or 512 gb storage" I really don't know what it means

@elcheca1 - You'll need to open Disk Utility to visually see the drives your system has looking at the device view.

Confirmed. If you go to OWC website… as an upgrade, SSD not supported on the 13,1 model. I have same.
