HELP NEEDED! Microphone flex cable repair

Block Image

Hi guys!

I changed the heat paste on my cpu while I unfortunately damaged the microphone flex cable. I have ordered a new one but I can’t figure it out how to get around the last part.

This is blocking me from changing the flex cable.

You should be able to carefully lift the top cable off of the lower Mic cable so you can un-stick the lower cable so you can slide it out to the side. A little solvent should help in the process.

Is there something stopping you from doing that?

Hi Dan, grateful for your response!

Yes, unfortunately :(. On the first picture I am pointing on that little qr code printed box with another flex coming out of it, where the torn mic flex cable goes under too. The little box was with a little screw fastened to the case also it is glued.

But when I tried to lift up slowly it seemed that maybe that has another cable going ?around? it or maybe not because im not able to clearly see under it.

I have attached a new picture where I have highlighted really amateur where the cable goes under.

I think you are over thinking this! You don't need to fully lift the upper cable, all you need to do is make sure the two cables are not stuck together. As long as the upper cable is not glued to the metal case where the lower cable is this should be a very easy fix.

On the new cable if you flip it over you'll note the blue plastic tabs cover the adhesive patches, now look at your damaged cable again you should be able to identify these same spots on it. If you can you should be able to take a Metal Spudger under the lower cable and then rotate the handle to slowly break the adhesive bond using a little solvent to help. I would take a iFixit Opening Picks (Set of 6) to help hold the cable off the case. Often I cut one in half to get into tight areas.

Once the lower cable is free you should be able to slide it out like how you slide a letter out of an envelope. Clean up the case areas to the new adhesive can stick. Reverse the process sliding the cable into place and then pull the blue tabs once the cable is in the correct placement.
