How to fix broken backlight? (Mac Pro A1707)
Hi everyone,
The backlight in my Macbook Pro has stopped working.
Has anyone had this issue before and/or know how to replace the backlight?
Thanks in advance!
Ouch! Not good ;-{
So how did the backlight fail? Are you facing a failed flex cable? So some of the backlight LED’s are lit and others not (Stage light effect)? The Design Flaw Behind MacBook Pro’s “Stage Light” Effect
Or, did the backlight just stopped working? Did you bang or drop your system?
Are you sure the backlight has failed and not the whole display? Using a flashlight against the display holding it at an angle you should see a faint image of your desktop and its icons. Do you see them?
If you plug in an external monitor are you able to see your desktop and run apps from it?

Hey Dan!
• The backlight has simply stopped working - I have never dropped my Macbook.
• The entire screen is black as opposed to the Stage Light effect.
• When I flash a torchlight at my screen, I can see my desktop and its icons.
• When I plug in an external monitor, I can see my desktop and run apps from it.
The more probable issue is a logic board issue with the backlight logic. This will require someone with much deeper skills to diagnose the circuit and have the needed tools to replace the damaged component.
Time to find someone with these deeper skills where do you live country and nearest city?
I’ve recently got one with a similar defect in our shop. By opening just a little bit the light is on, by opening more than that it stop working and screen has no more backlight.
Sadly this has probably to do with the backlight cable and the repair is:
Take a look to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEJt333c... for the change screen scenario, and to this for the cable scenario (not the same model, but similar work) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYtDVjYN...
Hope it helps.
