Home button not working after water on the front of the phone

I had my iPhone 6s in the bathroom with me and I accidentally dropped water on the front of the phone and I wiped it off with a towel. When I went to unlock it later, it said “touch ID can’t be activated on this iPhone” and the home button doesn’t do anything and touch ID doesn’t work. Has anyone had this happen before? Is there an easy fix? I have the screwdrivers and pry tools necessary for opening up the phone as I did a screen replacement earlier this year. Thanks!
