won't charge. does the battery need replacing?

Have you tried a different compatible charger or different charger cable to see if it will charge, you didn’t say?

Also, use a magnifying glass and a strong light to inspect the phone’s charge port enclosure to make sure that there is no lint etc in there preventing a good electrical connection.

If something appears to be in therethat doesn’t belong, do not use a metal pin or probe to try and dislodge it as it may damage the pins or cause electrical problems in the phone, use a vacuum cleaner to try and suck it out. If it still won’t budge, use a wooden toothpick to gently prise it out.

If it appears to be OK then it may be a loose charge port connection to the systemboard.

Try the following:

Insert the charger cable into the phone. Do not plug the other end of the charger cable into anything.

Grab hold of the phone firmly in one hand and then grabbing the plug of the charger cable that is inserted into the phone by the thumb and forefinger of the other hand gently, stress gently try to move the plug up and down and side to side, to check for any movement in the charge port.

If it feels loose or even if not the phone will have to be opened and inspected as to what the problem may be.

Here’s a video that shows how to replace the screen in the phone.I realize that this is not the problem with your phone but it is useful as it shows how to open the phone so that it can be inspected and tested.
