MacBook will only power on ONCE with battery connected. Passes diag.
Curious if anyone has had a similar issue. I’m not sure if it’s pointing me to a bad battery or motherboard. This is what happens:
With the battery unplugged and just the psu plugged in, the machine powers on and “passes” the built in mac diag. The system seems to work normally.
When you reconnect the battery, the machine will not power on with just the battery, but once you plug in the psu, the machine powers on and seems to work normally for the most part. It “passes” mac diag again with the battery connected here.
ONCE that battery is reconnected and the psu is connected for it to turn on, you CAN UNPLUG the psu and the machine will run on the battery. AT THIS POINT, you can restart the machine all you want, and it continues to work, with and without the charger plugged in…
UNTIL, you shut the computer down. As soon as you shut it down the cycle start all over, the machine will not power on until you disconnect the battery, drain static, and plug the psu in (with or without the battery connected)
Any pointers?
*Yes, I have cleared SMC and PRAM.
Thanks!

P.S. I have been a technician for about 15 years at this point and am the lead technician at the best local repair shop in my area. I look forward to using this forum. I Love all the great tools ifixit has put out, and love the quality parts you guys sell.
P.P.S. I put “passes” the diag in quotes because the mac diag has always seemed a little rushed to me, I like long seatools tests and memtests. haha
