Graphics repairable? Divides screen or pixilated.

Screen does multiple 'tricks' from dividing itself in two vertical sections projecting right on left and left on right; various multi colored horizontal pixilated lines; spontaneously restarts.

I know the graphics card is built into the logic board. Is there any way to prolong its life by reflowing solder or adding thermal paste, or is my only option to replace the logic board?

There are two versions of the logic board in this series one with just the built-in HD Graphics 3000 engine in the CPU (Macmini5,1 & Macmini5,3) and the second with the additional dedicated graphics Radeon HD 6630M (Macmini5,2)

The systems cooling was not very good so it often killed the Radeon HD 6630M GPU, more so running lots of heavy graphics.

In either case replacing the full logic board is really the only way to fix this.

Given the cost it might be wise to just replace the mini with a newer 2018 model. Apple improved the cooling quite a lot and while some people will argue the loss of the dedicated GPU might be an issue, for most I think its OK. Intels newer IG tech is much better than what the 2011 had back in the day.

I have Model A1347

2.7 GHz Intel Core i7

With the AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256MB

I suspect my issues stem from my son figuring out how to watch YouTube videos through the guest account. I noticed long ago that cooling seemed to be an issue and would periodically check inside for dust, and it always sat on a ventilated stand to help aid in the cooling process.

We had quite a few and we ended up swapping out the logic boards with the IG model but that was back 2012. The IG models hold up much better than the DG.

Any chance of installing a higher powered fan to keep it cool? I know it's on its way out, but currently seems to be able to do documents, email, etc. with several external fans focused on it. (I don't dare try any sort of video until I've completed my current assignment, and have been regularly backing it up.)

Apple uses mostly custom parts so I don't know of any alternative higher CFM fan that is the same physical size.

But you may still have an out! How about using this app TG Pro as your systems sensors push the fan you can ramp it up to a higher RPM. But be careful here! You don't want to push the fan to the max for long periods either! As you will burn it out.

Given its summer, if you have AC try placing the system near it so its sucking in cooler air that will also offer more effective cooling.
