battery adhesive strips have torn.

I need to replace the battery in my iPhone 5s. I have got as far as the battery adhesive strips and they have torn while trying to get them off. both strips have retracted to underneath the battery. Should I make sure the battery is dead before removing? it could prevent an explosion…

iPhone 5S stripes are difficult to remove and it would be a very good idea to always drain battery before working on it, it doesn’t take much to damage battery and get into unpleasant side effects. After draining it you can use something like a fishing or metal wire to slide under the battery and help lifting it, warming a bit the housing from the back will help soften the adhesive.

Hi @trtec

I would recommend you soak a q-tip in 90% alcohol and drip it along the sides of the battery. This is dissolve the adhesive enough that it can be pulled out with a simply pry tool. Just let it soak for 5 min or so before prying. Alcohol wont damage any components inside your iPhone but I would still use is sparingly.

Also you should only pry from the frame edge as prying off the logic board can damage it easily. Heat always helps as well, even if its just a hair dryer on high.

Best of luck!
