Can you explain more fully what your issue is the more detail the better! Have you raised the volume to the max?
I have a 15"MacBook Pro 2012 is its plenty loud when I'm in front of it working in a quiet room.
If I step away it won't be as its not a full room speaker! I have a UE Boom2 Bluetooth speaker which I use when playing music and its loud enough to fill my living room.
Speaker size and construction has a big bearing on how effective it is. Most laptop speakers are just intended to serve the given user sitting in front of the system.

Hello Dan. When watching a film or documentary I cannot hear details of the dialogue unless I wear headphones . Plenty of volume there, but not very social. I’m not sure if an app such as Boom2 or 3D would be all that useful. Do you have any experience with signal boosting apps? Although I do have Mini Jambox, again it is a bit quiet. Perhaps the UE Boom2 Bluetooth speaker is a better way to go. Any thoughts?
Both Boom2 or 3D are useful apps. Give one of them a try. Its a lot cheaper than the Boom2 ;-}
