2007 iMac CPU Upgrade
I’m planing to upgrade my CPU in my mid 2007 iMac since it’s socketed. So would a Core 2 Duo T9400 work with my Mac?
Looks like it can be upgraded: see http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/ This excellent software allows later versions of OSX on ‘unsupported’ Macs.
He comments: “The 2007 iMac 7,1 is compatible if the CPU is upgraded to a Penryn-based Core 2 Duo, such as a T9300”
Just did this upgrade last week (July 2021). Worked a treat in my iMac7,1 2007. Successfully ran both Mojave at 10.14.6 and Catalina 10.15.7. About This Mac doesn’t show the correct speed, displays 400Mhz <grin>. Clips along nicely, everything works just fine, Bluetooth, Wifi. Thought I would smarten it up too with a new paint job, so it didn’t look so dated.
Sorry for the delay in replying
I used PlastiKote Metallic Blue for the paint. I disassembled the iMac including removing the stand, so that I could make a proper job of spraying it.
I realised that the tiny microphone hole matrix at the top of the display would get clogged by the paint, so after removing the microphone I replaced those tiny holes by drilling a single hole about 2mm diameter.
I wanted to spray the black iMac logo independently so with the help of isopropyl alcohol I managed to remove that and sprayed it matt white.
For the keyboard I popped off all of the key caps, and put tape in their place to protect them from the paint. With the mouse, I masked off the aluminium body pretty easily using the gap between plastic and metal.
I decided not to spray the memory door, as it was already going to be a tight fit to replace after getting a bit of overspray.
Now I just need to decide what colour to use for the next one :-)
