Question about logic board replacement

I was wondering if there would be any issues replacing my logic board in my late 2014 Mac mini, I use it for a lot of server items and its getting rather run down. It currently has the i5 @ 2.6ghz and 8gb of ram. It isn’t to expensive to buy an upgraded board with more ram (the i7 @ 3.0 ghz w/ 16gb of ram). The major issue I see come into play is if apple changed heat syncs or power supplies depending on which board was place in the computer to begin with.

I would suggest going with an SSD to give it a really big speed boast:

UPDATE 5/30/19

I got one of these in for a hard drive upgrade yesterday. It seems that if the machine did not ship with a factory SSD installed, it may not even have the slot in it to put an SSD stick in.

I was thinking about that but didn't know if it would be more worth it to look at a logic board replacement. If I did do an ssd it would have to be a 1TB any recommendations on that front?

Your machine will take both an SSD blade and/or a standard 6.0 GBs drives. What is your current configuration? The blade is going to be much more expensive than just a standard drive. Although the SSD blade is very easy to install, the standard SSD 2.5" drive is difficult.

Here are the options from OWC but we may also want to look at a Samsung EVO 860

Well as far as I know I only have 1 drive in the Mac, and its a 1tb drive.

@samurai_jack - I would add in the PCIe blade SSD as its a lot less work and in the long haul will offer the most bang (much better than swapping out the logic bd to get a faster CPU). Whether you go with OWC or Transcend SSD's or Apple's Samsung SSD's is just a matter of cost and availability. Do keep in mind you don't need a massive SSD to gain performance! A 128 or 256 GB maybe all you need here.
