Mid 2012 MacBook Pro will not turn on

Hello everyone,

I’m hoping I can get some help getting my mid 2012 MacBook Pro to work again.

A few days ago I went to power on my system, it made the normal Apple boot tone, then my screen went blank and the computer has been unresponsive since then.

I have tried the SMC reset, booting it in safe/repair mode, and disconnecting the battery without any success. The MagSafe LED light on my charger shows up a very dim Green, but I plugged it into another MacBook similar to mine and it charged it no problem.

Whenever I plugged it back into my MacBook the LED light went from being the dim Green to Amber. I tried to power my system up then to no avail.

I sadly wasn’t able to leave it plugged in for more than 2 minutes. Does it sound like getting a new battery would help or does it sound like another issue?

If you moved the MagSafe charger plug from one Mac to the other in a matter of seconds the Amber light would be meaningless as it would take a while for the charger to reset.

If you have a dim Green light with or without battery, you probably have a logic board issue involving either the first power protection stage or the charging circuit.

However, if you have a battery issue it would be sufficient to disconnect the battery from the logic board and plug in the MagSafe to have a spontaneous boot and normal operations.

If that’s not the case, an in depth troubleshooting and micro-soldering skills would be needed to fix it.

Your logic board needs repairs!

I would add: You likely have a bad charger here! Either its a clone or the MagSafe connector is damaged shorting out.

In the past, when you charged it, did the bottom get realllly hot? If so, you may want to consider replacing the battery as a first option. iFixit price includes the tool kit where others like Amazon do not (tool kit IS a must).
