iMac Display shows horizontal bars/lines

My iMac started to show strange horizontal bars (perfectly dividing the screen into 4 areas), with flickering lines. The colors of these bars are blue/black.

Adjusting the brightness cause the bars get less or more visible.

Replaced my HDD with an SSD 6 months ago without issues until now. I was reading about opening the iMac and damaging the LCD display connectors.

The display works perfectly when it’s connected to an external monitor, wired or via airplay.

Did any kind of tests, even Apple Service Diagnostics, no issues found.

What does an external display look like? If its clean then the display assembly is damaged, it the external show the same markings then the logic board has problems.

As mentioned in my post, the external display shows a perfect image. Can you be more specific about the display assembly please? What is damaged specifically, the whole LCD? Thx

Sounds like it was damaged in the process of taking it off then. Most of the time one see's bars when the display was not taken off correctly using the proper tools and technique. Here's the needed part [リンクされた製品が存在しない、もしくは無効: IF174-035] and here's the guide to replace it.

I did the SSD replacement myself following the iMac Intel 27インチ EMC 2546ハードディスクドライブの交換 guide and bought the same kit. Are you sure it's not possibly related with the display data cable, or it's connectors?

I'm asking to be sure because changing the whole LCD is really expensive, also idk why doesn't shows to be available for international shipping when I try to add to my cart (

If you strongly believe the cable and or the connectors are damaged then lets take some pics so we can see and post them here.

The T-CON board on the back of the display is where I suspect your problem is located. As an example : 27" 2014 iMac T-CON board.

I agree, but no, I cannot be sure. I will ask to iFixt if there some possibility to ship internationally the Display Assembly. Thanks Dan!

Since you can connect to an external monitor IMHO I think you are correct. It sounds like the LCD display connectors have been damaged. I’ve never repaired/replaced that but perhaps the iFixIt archives will have something? Good luck.

I seem to have the same issue. iMac screen is messed up but “clears up” after some time. Hooked up to external monitor no problem.

Brought my machine to Apple and they couldn’t 100 Percent give an answer. Computer is in working order except for the mysterious screen issue that comes and goes.

Nobody knows what to do.

Yep! Your internal displays T-CON board is failing!

Sadly, you'll need a new display iMac 27" LCD Display Panel & Front Glass Assembly (12/13) and here's the guide you'll need to follow iMac Intel 27インチ EMC 2546 ディスプレイ交換
