Unusual screen issue following liquid damage

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 13” 2014. It had liquid damage. Following liquid damage the laptop works but the display doesn’t work. I can hear the laptop turn on, and I can very faintly see the Apple logo etc and I can hear the chime. So I tried an external monitor and it worked on the monitor. Then I tried a screen from another laptop which I know works and its the same situation - nothing displays on the screen.

So I am wondering what has gone wrong with the laptop? Is it the logic board. Or is it something else. Is it something that can be repaired cost effectively?

Please help or advise if you have any thoughts on this situation.

If you had liquid damage that was never properly cleaned its likely corroded things up.

You’ll need to open the system and remove the logic board to make a proper inspection. Clean off the dust with a softy paint brush so you can see things clearly. If you see any discolored areas take a good picture and post it here for us to see. iFixitでの質問に画像を追加する方法

Not good ;-{

The logic board connector is corroded! Look at your second image the bottom darkened area is corrosion along the pins. I was hoping to see the tang of the cable connector to see if it do is damaged.

You’ll need to replace the connector and I’m suspecting the cable will need to be replaced as well. I’m suspecting the traces on the logic board may also need repairs.

This will need a bit of work to bring back.

Hi Dan, Firstly thank you for the quick response. I have already done that. I used isopropanol based PCB cleaning liquid to clean the board. After cleaning the board I still had the same situation. Any thoughts?

Take some clear pics so I can see the LVDS connector both the logic board and the cable end.

Hi Dan, I'll do what you have suggested and upload some pictures tomorrow. Thanks again.

Hi Dan/Adel, thank you both for your help. Based on what you have said I don’t think it will make financial sense to repair. I assume the connector would need to removed and a new one soldered on!

Hi Rayan,

Inspecte the conectors of the screen. look if you have suspected colors or burnt pins on the screen connector on the board. You need a kind of a little microscope or a camera with a good zoom to watch out what is going on.

For note, try to mac a reset for NVRAM and SMC for every test after assembling ur PC.

Good luck

Hi Adel, Thank you. I assume if there is damage to the screen connector it must be on the logic board end. I will do what you suggest. I'll update both of you tomorrow. Thank you,
