MacBook Pro 2016 (non touchbar) always auto shutdown when run Chrome

My Macbook Pro always randomly shutdown when running Google Chrome especially if run more than 5 tabs. Right now, I prove this by using only Safari and it never shutdown yet.

It started happening since last two weeks. At that time I am running 3 Chrome windows with more than 5 tabs on each windows. All of sudden, it shutdowned my Macbook.

Is there any issue with Google Chrome on Macbook?

Is it related to the issue Apple retract Google Apps access on iOS recently, and perhaps it is also retracting Google Chrome enterprise access to MacOS?

Are you using the correct version of Chrome for your MacOS?

How much RAM and free storage does your system have? Chrome is a pig!

If your system is only 8 GB and has very little free space on your drive you could be just hitting a resource wall. Try cleaning off your drive leave 1/4 for 512 GB or bigger and 1/3 if you have you have a 256 GB drive free.

Back in 2012, many Mac users were experiencing spontaneous kernel panics in response to using Google Chrome, initiating a full system reboot. It was found that Chrome was incorrectly using system graphics resources. However, because this was over 7 years ago, I doubt this is the case.

I would try opening Chrome and digging in the settings to see if Malware/Adware happened to be installed as a plugin (a very common thing with Chrome, which is why I stick to Safari) If you cannot find any evil plugins installed, reset your browser settings.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More > Settings.
  3. At the bottom, click Advanced.
    • Chromebook, Linux, and Mac: Under "Reset Settings," click Restore settings to their original defaults  Reset Settings.
    • Windows: Under "Reset and cleanup,” click Reset Settings  Reset Settings.

If you’re unable to access the settings without your system rebooting, uninstall Chrome, then reinstall.

Let me know if this helps!
