No backlight, image is there, looking for backlight fuse and driver

Today my MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Mid 2014) with a 3.0 GHz logic board

Started flickering. I restarted it, and when it turned back on there was no backlight. I can see an image when I shine a light through the screen from the backside Apple logo.

1.5 years ago it was repaired also due to no backlight, and during that repair some “IC components” was replaced on the logic board. It seems to me that it is the same problem I’m having today.

I have the following questions:

  1. Is there any way to fix this without buying a new logic board, and if so can i do it my self?
  2. Where is the fuse/driver located on the logic board?
  3. Is there any guide as to test which part of the logic board that is not working

Thanks in advance!

You’re the best gage of your skill sets.

  • Do you have the tools to work on your system?
  • Are you able to read and understand schematics and board layout drawings?
  • Do you have the needed tools to micro-solder the tiny components used on your logic board?
  • Do you have access to the needed parts?

Many people don’t have these skills or have issues handling the small components. Don’t take it hard, even I’ve given up doing it as my arthritis prevents going this deep anymore.

We don’t really get into the deep end of circuit repairs like you need here. Often times liquid damage is the cause of many failures like yours. I would start off making sure thats not the issue. Take the time to inspect your logic board and if you see something thats damaged, corrosion or staining take a good picture and post it here for us to see. Then we can guide you then iFixitでの質問に画像を追加する方法

Thank you for the quick response! As a matter of fact the screen turned itself on after a while. It flickered a little, but is now stable. So it seems the fuse isnt blown (yet)...

Should it happen again:

I have the disassembly tools myself, and voltmeter, oscillometer and solder station i think i can lend.

I'm not sure about where to get IC spare parts though..

I would still make the effort to pop the bottom cover off using a soft paint brush carefully wipe the dust build up and use a can of can'ed air to blow it away. See if you see something amiss. Its better to catch this now before you loose the backlight altogether. You may have some corrosion damage that needs attention.
