Does Android/Galaxy S9 allow you to install apps on the SD card?

I want to make the jump to Android and buy a Galaxy S9 (or Zenfone Z5), but I can’t get a straight answer anywhere about whether you can actually put apps/games on the external SD card.

I’ve always thought that you could buy a 64GB phone, slap in a 128GB card, and enjoy having a ridiculous amount storage for apps.

Some places say you can do this, and give you the necessary steps.

Other places (including Google itself) say that the external SD card can ONLY be used for media such as music/videos/photos… and that apps/games CANNOT be stored on it.

Yahoo Answers, has only provided VERY un-helpful answers thus far. Can somebody please clarify whether you can install Play Store Apps on the external SD card?

Sure you could do this but none of the downloaded / accumulated app data gets stored on the microSD card itself. It still gets stored in the internal storage section, unless the app specifically allows you to store downloaded content onto the microSD card.

I would go with the larger internal storage if possible.

You can do this, but the application has to be compatible and not all are. From what I have seen, the applications that occupy most can be passed to the SD, but I could notice a small drop in performance if it is not a quality SD and fast. Not 100% of the application is saved in the SD, but the most heavy part.

The best thing is still to buy a mobile with more capacity, this increases the performance and avoids the need not to extract the SD and paralyze the transferred applications.

I hope to be helpful

a greeting
