Hi, i recently bought the JBL Xtreme 2 this black friday and happened to come upon a problem. The speaker randomly cuts off all sound for maybe half a second to a second. I also want to add that i mostly use the aux so it is weird that this keeps happening
So i was wondering if i missed a step when i set it up, and if you guys had answers to my problem

Quite the opposite actually. If this was happening while connected to bluetooth I would suggest radio interference as the culprit.
Has the speaker been paired to your device before? If not the drops might be happening when the speaker is searching for a bluetooth connection. If it has and you are paired to the speaker as well as using the aux cord, that might be a contributing factor as well.
My suggestion is try it with bluetooth only and try it with the aux cord while bluetooth is disabled on your device. If the audio still cuts out it is beyond my paygrade.

This helped me rule out both of those things. I just received my JBL speakers. I run them from my Ipad - usually a Spotify playlist. I have them paired to the Ipad, and then I use the party mode to get both of them play in different rooms. One or the other is always cutting out every few seconds. I have great reception and no problems when just using one.

I meet the same problem with JBL Boombox 2, which was bought in Dec 2020.
In my perspectives, this is a product defect. The right solution should treat AUX as the highest priority once the speaker is connected with a device by AUX or add a switch button to change mode between AUX and Bluetooth signals.
I never thought JBL could make such a low level mistake and never tried to fix it in many years for so many product modes. This made me surprised.
I like JBL speakers’ sound quality, but I don’t like the connection part. JBL should learn from Bose’s technology in connection area.
At the last, JBL speaker is good at sound quality, but it’s nothing in other areas.
This isn't a fire the speaker with this trouble for we're going to fire
So what about if the audio completely cuts every time I turn the volume all the way up
Ok I have got 2 boombox for a wile now and never have a issue so from one day to another it start giving me this problem I could figure out what could have changed so one thing i noticed that i have both speakers conected to Bluetooth on my phone even if i turn off the Bluetooth on one problem continue but when i forget one of the speakers on my phone the problem disappeared immediately this fixed my problem now I can listen music of the Bluetooth whit out auxiliar giev it a try

Solved in the first comment below. turn your input sound to 95 and sound on spearks lower, it drops out because it’s trying to sleep when there is no sound but takes time to wake up when it detects sound, this way it also has enough input to stay awake - Yes this is intentional by JBL! Complain to them if you can BA’d maybe they will give the option to turn it off.

My issue with the audio drop in/out would STOP when I quit moving the mouse....Yes...a Logitech MX Master 2S 'bluetooth' mouse. Go figure.
Just maximize the TV volume, or if watching from a laptop, put the volume at the taskbar at full 100%. If you watching from VLC player, scroll the mouse on the movie at 200% and then reduce the volume at the speaker manually to adjust sound accordingly. I had this issue watching movies and at dead silent scenes, the volume used to cut off at my speaker. At jump scare scenes, I would not flinch because the sound would catch up late. By increasing the volume at the source at max ( my case Laptop volume 100% and VLC 200% ) this issue was solved. This works if you are using aux cable from TV or laptop to external speakers

i fixed this by always playing a background tone, somewhere between the range of 19k and 20k Hz
this way there is always an audible signal going to your speaker and u wont even notice it is there :)

Hi! May be helpful - hold down the bluetooth button and minus button for 10 sec - turn off low bass
"Yes hold down the bluetooth button and minus buttons together till power button changes. Bass boost mode, so yes, this device can improve bass with this setting. If device won’t power on, plug in to power, hold down connect button next to power button and plus buttons together. This will reset unit. Tk"

It seems quite clear that the speaker (JBL Xtreme 2) contains a digital ‘gate’ which silences all audio below a certain loudness level. In my case, I’m sending the audio signal to the speaker from a DAC with a line level output (this is a weaker signal than you get from a headphone output). I could not prevent the speaker from ‘gating’ (cutting off) the sound, so I inserted a small battery-powered headphone amplifer between the DAC and the speaker to boost the signal strength. This solved the issue. An alternative solution is to connect the speaker to the headphone output (of a TV, for example), as this should give a stronger signal.
This ‘gate’ (which is probably implemented in the software/firmware) should be removed by JBL as it achieves nothing but causes a lot of problems when using the analog audio input.
As others have stated above, if you still have problems when using a headphone output, turn the device (TV etc) to maximum volume and reduce the volume on the JBL speaker to whatever level you desire.

Same happened with me. AUX low volume cuts out and bluetooth is OK. I called JBL, They referred me to a JBL repair place by me which I spent a day to sort out, and they told me this:
If bluetooth: The signal is strong and reliable.
If AUX: the signal or volume from the output (computer/phone etc) must be high (over 80%) and you physically reduce the volume on the JBL and it will work just fine. It has been over a month for me and this is the legit fix!
I told the guy, this is broken though... Why would a reputable company like JBL do this, he obv didn't know but yea, basically JBL created an incredible speaker with a f***ing annoying glitch. I only use AUX at home and also for portable DJing out and about. Outside is OK as the volume is high anyway but this !#^&@! me off at home as the bass will !#^& off my neighbours and why should I WALK to my BLUETOOTH speaker every 2 minutes to MANUALLY turn the vol up/down? Big fail JBL... big fail.

The “low bass” mode can and most probably will permanently damage your speaker, it’s not intended to be used all the time. It’s one of the dev functions to determine if there are any problems with audio. I mean it’s your speaker, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

i am having same problem in my “Partybox 300” it cuts off while connected to the PC/Laptop with AUX. and it does not turn back on unless i Move the sound bar up&down in windows. i called the JBL & they answered this device is not meant to be used with Computers. “Seriously!” Its a partybox 300.

I have two JBL charge 3. Only connected to Bluetooth to one of the speakers and the other one is paired to the second speakers. Got the both same day and on the first day, started cutting off sound for half of second to a full second. Why is that? (Volume is half way up only)

I’ve just been trying this and found a way around it in my set up. I have Aux in from a PC. I started to notice this where a quiet scene was showing the sound cut out completely and when the dialogue or action started again you lose the first 1/4 second or so. You need to drop the sound level on the bar to 2 or three LEDs on the left. Increase the audio of whatever is playing. That could be the TV or PC. Make sure if PC that the particular video or film volume is up as well (to at least 75%). Then balance the sound level you want on the bar itself. Basically if the level hitting the bar is too low it will drop the audio completely. You need to make sure the source level is high or over 3/4 of the way up. Good luck

I found the culprit !
Same issue i had here trying to use with my TV via Aux. Please note that if you previously connected to any smart decide and opted for option for device to match volume level with speaker level, means increasing volume level on a device will increase volume level on extreme 2, and vice versa the speaker will keep trying to compensate if it's connected by aux difference in volume.
Example if your speaker was 100% and you connected to a TV while TV being at only 20% any pause in dialogue or sound will make speaker thinking sound from 3.5 has stopped and it will enter energy saving mode.
Solution worked for me :
Make speaker at 50% volume and TV on the max volume . Or in other words make sure at all times device volume is higher than speaker volume. Meybe it doesn't make sense, but it worked for me and doesn't cost you anything to give it a go
Is there any device you can buy to interface between computer (or mixer) to the JBL speaker to boost volume on the sending end? Otherwise the AUX volume level is too low for a party.
I have a JBL 5Flip and cannot get it to stop cutting in and out is there anyway I can fix this??

If your speakers is connected to an aux cord and the volume is to low it will cut out due to the speakers software also being to low. To fix this turn up the volume on the speaker and leave the other device at a comfortable listening volume. I have a extreme connected to a pc and subwoofer and ran into this problem in quite spots in movies and music. Increase volume on pc and speaker.

Does this mean that you plug a cable into the speaker instead of connecting with bluetooth?

The cord is gone from the the soup the subwoofer of the JBL NetSpend knock it off or something

Indeed glad I'm not the only one this is happening to. Really unhappy a 300$ speaker has this issue.
