My keyboard stops working after I enter my password

I was having coffee and I almost spilled it , I jumped and pulled the Mac away and quickly shut it down. Now when I start it up, I can only get as far as entering my password, once the programs load it becomes unresponsive. I did have to wipe literally just a few drops off the keyboard. At start up I get a box that says,”you shut down your computer because of a problem” I believe Apple website said this is a rare occurrence. Any suggestions?

When you forcefully shut down the system by holding the power button or if your system crashes you’ll often get this warning. Basically the system still had open files which could now be corrupted. In some cases these files aren’t important as they are just cache files so your data is still intact. Click OK to continue loading the OS at which point you should shutdown the system correctly and then restart the system following these steps Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck. You may need to start your system via the onboard OS recovery service to gain access to Disk Utility, follow theses steps About macOS Recovery
