A tablet released in September of 2015 by Amazon featuring a 7 inch multi-touch screen display. Model Number: SV98LN
Hi @badwithtech ,
If you want to have a chance that the tablet can be saved, it needs to be opened and all the corrosion (caused by the impurities in the water) and any remaining water needs to be cleaned away, using Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+ (available at most pharmacies). If you can avoid it do not use “rubbing alcohol” as the is sometimes <70% IPA, can contain scents and generally is not as effective. If you have to use it, check the label to verify the amount of IPA.
First do not turn on or charge the tablet and then you need to remove that battery as soon as possible to prevent any further damage
Here’s a link to the ifixit Amazon Fire 5th Generation Repair guides. They show how to dis-assemble the tablet. They also have a list of the tools that are required to perform the task.
Here’s a link that in general describes what you have to do once the tablet has been opened.
As always with electronics, be gentle when handling and do not remove any components from the board when cleaning it.
Hopefully after having done all this your tablet may work again.
If this all seems too daunting, contact a reputable, professional mobile phone repair service, experienced in water damage repair, and ask for a quote to repair the tablet.
If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later
Leave the device turned off and try and shake out as much standing water that may be left inside as you can through any openings where it may have gotten inside. Try and blow any water away with canned air if available and then clean charging port area with 91% alcohol. This is about the best you can do without further disassembly. Hope this helps.
