iPhone 6s not responding after screen replacement

I replaced a friends 6s screen, & transferred everything over perfectly. I made a huge mistake not disconnecting the battery nor shutting down the phone. When i put in the LCD connector i saw a small spark accompanied with a small amount of smoke.

Phone will not respond at all to anything now. I tried disconnecting the battery & holding down the power button. Did i blow out something in the board? How much would it cost to get repaired? What issues am i looking at?

The iPhone 6S is particularly sensitive to leaving the battery connected. Generally speaking, it's the backlight circuit that blows on the board. To test this, connect your phone to an iTunes enabled computer. The computer should recognize your phone (which means it is booting up). Then shine a bright light on the screen. If you see a dim image, then the backlight circuit is damaged.

This can be repaired but it requires a micro-soldering repair and is not really a DIY repair.

As for repair, look locally for a reputable shop that does micro-soldering repairs. Ideally, you want to find someone local but good workmanship trumps locality. There are many shops worldwide that do this so you shouldn't have any problems finding them. Talk to them and ask how they do their work and good practices like proper cleaning of boards once completed etc.

If you can't find one locally, then consider mail-in repair. There are several reputable micro-solderers patrolling this forum. You can also click on my profile to learn more about my services, at the very least, it can serve as a data point.

The phone does boot up & connect to itunes, but there is no dim display by holding a flashlight to it. Thank you for the help

It could be the LCD driver circuit that go t damaged. Not as common as the backlight but still possible. The same logic applies though...micro-soldering repair.
