How do I fix dark screen but can faintly see picture when I hold light

I have LG 47LN5200-UB, has been working fine but two nights ago went to turn it on and screen is black. I can see a Faint picture if I hold a flash light up to the screen.

I have tried unplugging it, holding the power button for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. I tried switching picture settings to vivid. But did not help. Sound works fine.

What else can I try.

Also when I power on the TV, a light flashes across the screen then goes black. With just a really faint tint of picture or menu on the screen. Can only be seen when you're holding a flash light up to the screen. Sound works perfectly to what ever input you select.

Mine started backlight problems, I don't know if this is only happens to LG digital set. Please how can I fix.

さんによる

I don't know if this is the reason but I suffer from the same problem but I believe that the TV isn't getting enough power from the cable you plug into the outlet

I Feel That's The Problem

It will be a tcon or backlight issue, Look for someone local to you to repair it or if you feel you have the confidence do it yourself with some help from us.

It is backlight mine did same thing

I would put money on the backlight being gone. The flashing light on startup makes me think the transfomer. I would look to start with replacing that first.

さんによる

I took the back off TV and powered it on, the back lights flash on then go out. I will look for pricing on transformer.

If you let it warm up a bit then the picture will eventually turn out clear.

It may work. I had a similar problem, but not the exact one

I have the same problem I think just letting it warm.up a bit might work though

さんによる

katie humble most likely not but let us know how it works out for you. This is a backlight issue and will not resolved by waiting for it to warm up

If the screen is dark, but is visible when exposed to bright light, then the backlight may be broken. A simple comparison would be the Game Boy, which had to backlight and was notoriously difficult to use in the dark

Ok so think it's the back light only because it shows my dstv so not my cables so the light is at the back of the TV when u open it

ok so… there is a kill switch relay on the powerboard, almost the first component in the circuit. it will look like a small black or /blue , somtimes yellow rectangular box. it wiill have 6-8 pins soldering it too board.

almost every time. i fix a tv that does it. of coarse. whatever diode down the line burned out allow and is allowing high volt spikes when relays flip. is still burned out thus thee relay coil will also burn out eventually. unless u add a high efficent diode between switch outlet and and un switched oulet pole. poles ——->--arrow facing toward switched. this will atlt least protect from the “main” high voltage spike.

they do make relays with diode built in. but i like to build my own relays. so they work forever….. also use a heatsink between solder connection and diode or u will pop it. (make it not have direction). well love, hugs, and happy mucking.

hello, i know this is a old thread hopefully your still on here. i have a question of what you said. it seems it might be my problem. my screen is very dim today. about a week ago my power surge tripped for no reason and i dont know why. could the tv voltage from the board trip the surge. and then it eventually blew the led backlights out? i was thinking of fixing the led myself, but if i also have this volt issue you speak of i might just buy a new tv. or maybe buy another motherboard and backlights at the same time if i do decide to do it myself?

@martymcfly41128 what is your TV's make and model? Do you have a multimeter? What have you checked thus far?

さんによる

@oldturkey03 i dont have a multimeter. i took the entire back off today and just browsed the board for any defects like swollen components or burnt one. i decided to not flip it over and pull the front off to look at the lights. its a hisense model 75eu8070. i found a tv repair shop in town thats been in business for over 30 years. im going to call them tommorrow and ask their rates. the size of this tv is just to much to mess with for me. if it was 32 or 50 id just rip it apart but i guess ima let the pros handle it and ill mention the voltage

さんによる

@martymcfly41128 first it’s a Hisense and second the symptoms lead me to believe its not a power issue but a led backlight issue. TV’s that size usually use an LED driver board which could gave failed too ( unlikely but possible) let us know what happened. Best of luck to you!

ic ommented above, i took mine to a repair shop and they replaced the bulb strips and its been good since. cost about $300 but some of these newer screens you can break while opening and it was 75 inch. had 3 really old guys who fixed tvs out of boredom in retirement do it

Hi there I have the same problem with my TV.when I switched the TV on there was no light.but sound is fine when holding flash you can see the movements

さんによる

Did you get it fixed or just brought a new one?

さんによる

I have a 55 inch,do you think it will be super expensive to fix?

さんによる

mine was backlight, $300 to fix 75 inch. 55 might be slightly cheaper but the lights themselves i think were around $80. for me the 300 was worth fixing a 75 inch. for a 55 inch you can get those for either same cost to fix it or $100 more. also finding someone to fix it is a nightmare. i got lucky that 3 old guys were fixing tvs as a thing of boredom in retirement. best buy might do it if the tv is a certain size but they wouldnt do mine.

its the strip of bulbs, just get a new tv itll be less then repairing it. i paid 300 to repair mine because my tv is enormous but i had to find the only tv repair shop that would fix a 75 inch tv. most places wont fix anything over 32 inch, and at that point itll cost as much to fix as a new tv. the bulbs themselves run like 60-80$ plus labor

@ayoolaafinjuomo definitely sounds like failed backlight strips.
