Updated phone and now I can't unlock it

I recently had an update on my phone, and it restarted after I allowed it to install. After finishing it asked me for my password to allow it to continue it's on process. But it doesn't take my password that I'm a hundred percent sure is correct.

There is not really much you can do about it, being a budget phone there is no software you can use to do anything about it.

I am having the exact issue with my Life one X2. Very frustrated because I am using the same password i use for everything.

I have just updated my life one x2 and got the same issue. This is just ridiculous!

I was able to install the "fix" and unlock my phone. Then I got a "Decryption unsuccessful" error telling me "the password you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt. To resume using your phone, you need to perform a factory reset. When you set up your phone after the reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your account".

So I guess even after waiting, I will still lose all my data. Shite.

さんによる

That's not what happened with me. My phone worked alright after this.

さんによる

I got the data corrupt message too.

I asked this in another thread but was wondering if by doing a hard reset or purposely entering the wrong keys is the fault on blus end or are any warranties going to be voided by the user doing those steps.

さんによる

I talked to a supervisor yesterday and they're working on it. If you're trying to preserve your data, I'd keep waiting. There's only a few if us that got this error according to support.

さんによる

I found this post and did not trust a random post on the Internet with a Google Drive link to update my phone. I contacted BLU, they sent me the same email, with a link to the same Google Drive doc. It only took about 2 minutes on the phone to get them to send me an email. Before I called I submitted the support form so that they would have all my information on the phone.

Hi!

I was on the phone with the tech support team at BLU couple minutes ago and this is what they told me...

They just told me that they will do a remote rollback of all the updated phone and there is no ETA for this... else if you need to access your phone right away you have to do a factory reset but you'll loose all your data.

Seriously I'm a professional Quality Assurance Manager and someone at BLU didn't do is job properly and validate the update before sending it on the market... terrible!!!

How would this work if the phone is in its current state? Do you think they will still be able to send out an update with it in its locked mode?

I realize you may not have these awnsers but if anyone else has some insite pls let me know!

さんによる

Of course, we are blocked, the rollback dont work for us.. so, we gonna lose everything !

さんによる

What exactly is a remote rollback? They will be able to send our phones a new update even if it's locked?

さんによる

This is what I told the tech support but they told me it's possible... we shall see!!! I will do a factory reset cause I have no time to wait for a workaround that may never comes... I'm not happy with this issue from BLU!!!

さんによる

Guess I'll do a factory reset as well

A hard reset of the phone should resolve the issue, but it will also wipe all of the data:

(^^ updated from a better link in the comments)

[UPDATE]

I have successfully performed a hard reset and was able to get into my phone. As expected, all the personal data and apps have been removed. The OS is still upgraded though, so that is a plus, I guess. At the end of the setup process, it is asked me to reinstall my apps. Most seem to have reloaded without issue. Of course, all of my preferences were wiped.

This is not working for me...

Super easy fix. Actual reset took less than five minutes. IF you selected to save all your date to google drive when you FIRST SETUP your phone... You'll get everything back - contacts, apps, etc. (at least I did). Cheers.

さんによる

The factory reset got it to boot, but the setup app crashes (on the screen where you can sign-up for BLU spam), so I can't actually use it. Looks like I'll be getting a new phone ...

さんによる

I'm trying to reboot phone, after doing system reset. Fingers crossed this works.

For a easy way hard resetting ... just type in wrong PİN numbers 9 times back to back. after 9 times your phone will start resetting. if you have a SD card remove it first.

I wonder is it possible to install custom recovery like TWRP on this?

If yes, then the screen lock should be removable.

If you can boot TWRP without wiping the phone you can use the file manager on there with system partition mounted then navigate to:

"/data/system/"

Delete or move to another folder:

- locksettings.db, locksettings.db-shm and locksettings.db-wal

Once this is one, reboot phone from recovery and the phone should have no lock screen.

I have only tested this on android 6.0.1 to 7.0 Samsung Firmware.

Looks like this phone has TWRP recovery available for it:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/general...

Most likely you do not have OEM unlocking enabled (needed to flash files in fastboot mode) in the debugging options of your phone which means you may have to do a factory reset.

What's TWRP?

さんによる

TWRP stands for Team-Win Recovery Project, it is a custom recovery that can be used to flash custom Roms and root your phone using custom root files that are only flashable through custom recoveries.

It also can be used to gain access to data in phones that are stuck in boot.

さんによる

I think that because of the version of these phones you could theoretically because they have not patched Blueborne Bluetooth based attack to gain root access to the device.

さんによる

Or if you know the password and were able to recovery the encrypted data, assuming that the hash is not salted or peppered than you could theoretically gain access to the data on the device, if anyone has any super important things that they cannot get back and can not risk loosing.

Did the factory reset but now it stucks in a "can't connect to google servers" error. Anyone knows how to solve it?

Update (11/28/2017)

Try connecting to the internet, if that does not work try to ping 8.8.8.8 a google server, if it works it means the problem is probably with Blu because the computer can reach google servers. If still not working try clearing the cache partition, might resolve system errors.

At first I was thrilled since I was on the verge of replacing the OS just to get critical security updates. However, I've had the same issue. I'm guessing most folks having this problem have (as I did) password protected their boot process. I tried several things - reboot, shutdown/remove SIM/reboot, diagnostics, "dumb" things like no pin / 0000 / 1234 / etc. Finally I gave up and restored to factory. As others have noted, the patch remains after update. I'm not going to invest much time in getting the phone back the way I had it. Instead, after a few critical events are done I'll replace the OS with the latest unadulterated Android and I'll be much happier. In the meantime, you can bet I'll be rejecting any other updates from BLU.

Hi, sorry but what dd you mean by "I'll replace the OS with the latest unadulterated Android"? Is there a site I can go to to learn how to do this on my own? I'm a touch tech saavy but am not too familiar with the latest android mobile ware and tricks.

さんによる

Blu uses a modified version on android, that has in the past been found to be sending all your personal info name location storage text/call ect. to an offsite server somewhere in china, as well as the huge lack in frequent and functional security patches. Basically factory reset, go into dev options change some stuff, download the latest android you want, and put it on the device. It is basically 'Jailbreaking' or rooting a device this is a useful guide: http://blox2.com/how-to-root-the-blu-lif...

Had the same issue. Only option is to hard reset phone.

My advice: Put BLU out of business by never buying their garbage again! We got 3 phones: one they took back due to defects (bot a Samsung), one died (bot another Samsung), and they turned the 3rd one into a brick with an untested update ... all three problems in less than a year.

Phone hardware is junk, service and support SUX, software is buggy, and spyware is included FREE ... thanks BLU!!!

If your stuff is backed up with Google and Nova Launcher you are ok. I just used up my password tries and let my phone reset itself the next day. The procedure sent by BLU is out of this world for the ordinary user. Very disapointed in BLU for this major error.

I think I might have a fix to roll back OS and I need the help of someone who hasn't bricked their phone yet (Or has access to an ISO of the old non-bricked BLU OS) But you might still be able to do this if someone knows where to find the original BLU OS

So I updated and you know the story, phone will not unlock, looking though these comments someone got a hold of tech support they said that they COULD do rollback while locked

I am doing this on a BLU Life One X2 I have no idea if this works on anything else or what else was affected.

So what you need:

Your bricked phone (have a good amount of charge)

A micro SD card

The previous version of the Blu OS

Disclaimer: I am not an expert, this is just my suggestion, I am not responsible if you brick your brick but then it is still just bricked, but seriously proceed at your own risk, if it can you should probably wait for BLU to fix it but that will probability take a some time, if it cannot wait than this might work. I am doing this on my BLU Life One X2, I have no idea if this will work or what does work on other devices.

First step: download previous version of Blu OS onto a micro SD card and them put it into the port on the back of the phone.

Second step: Shut down the phone completely hold down the power button until it is completely off, and you are not touching it. Then press and HOLD BOTH the power and the volume up button until I say to let go, the phone should turn on, flash a white screen and say something like press for 8s to boot into DRAM, put your finder on the screen and hold for 8 seconds, phone should turn all the way off now you let go of the power and volume up. You will now just push and HOLD the power button until the phone turns both on and off after it is off let go of the power. This process should trick the phone into recovery mode, PRESS AND HOLD the power and volume up button, until a black screen saying something like entering recovery mode shows up, at this point let go of ONLY the power button, continue to HOLD the volume up. The screen should change to a menu that says something like

Android Recovery

BLU/p7701/p7701

6.0.1 /MMB29M/android11141658

user/release-keys

Use volume up/down and power.

Reboot system now

Reboot to bootloader

Apply update from ADB

Apply update from SD card

Wipe data/factory reset

Wipe cache partition

Mount /system

View recovery logs

Power off

Step three: Use the up and down buttons to go to apply update from SD card, use a quick tap of the power button to mount the SD card, this should do a long scrolling list of commands, at one point graphics will load, then hopefully if there were no errors it will stop and show that the install was finished, shutdown and reboot, theoretically you should be done but you might need to troubleshoot some things, hit me up with questions or if you have a clean stock BLU OS that is working good send the ISO I could really use it!

Ugg, I tried to wait it out and today experienced blu customer service. Circular conversation on their end.

I just wiped it all but wanted to warn people. Business ethics seem to continually be flushed down the toilet.

IF YOU RESET your gmail password during the new installation you will be locked out for 24-48 hours on google's end, so still no phone. My fault but just an fyi.
