Memory upgrade to 32GB
I am wondering if the MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 memory can be upgraded to 32GB.

None of the MacBook Pro laptops support this much RAM. Only a desktop system is able to and only a few models have the ability to be upgraded to this level.
Presently all of the retina series have soldered RAM only the older non-retina series has upgradable RAM.
The newest touch bar retina series systems also have soldered flash storage so they can’t be upgraded but the older retina series have socketed flash SSD drives.
Update (10/31/2019)
Apple now offers 32 GB of RAM as a special order config in the 2018 & 2019 15” MacBook Pro Touch Bar systems. This is soldered in RAM!

According to Wikipedia, MacBook Pro Retina has soldered on RAM, the Unibody before it has upgradeable RAM slots, you may upgrade those up 8gb per slot = 16gb max.

I understood it that you can only upgrade before purchase on models after 2015

On this model you can ONLY upgrade the SSD, unfortunately you CANNOT upgrade or downgrade on RAM, you're stuck with what you got when purchased.

That won't give much to your discussion but I recently upgraded my 2016 Dell latitude 5470 (i7-6820) from 16 to 32 GB (Crucial) though it was denied by Dell that it is possible. It cost me about 130 €.
Maybe you could consider a hackintosh for your memory-demanding applications.

The RAM is soldered on the logic board in this system, as you can see here: MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2015)
@danj I always wonder why people talk about things they obvsiously don't have a clue about :/
who is right here? is 2015 MacBook Pro upgradable after purchase
@Martin Steel - The RAM is soldered to the logic board, the RAM is not directly upgradeable! There is no means to unplug the RAM to plug in something else (no SO-DIMM's).
The logic board is setup to support upto 16 GB of RAM so at the factory the machines that install the RAM can either solder on either 8 GB or 16 GB depending on what Apple orders. Then Apple constructs the system and sells it to you. You are either buying a 8 or 16 GB version that's it!
Can someone desolder the RAM chips and put on the larger capacity chips yes thats possible! But very few people have the needed equipment to do it properly.
I've now needed to repair a couple of logic boards where people attempted to do it (ended up replacing one as it was to far gone).
At the end of the day its cheaper just to replace the logic board with the larger RAM if you really need it.
Martin, please don't up vote an obviously false answer like this.

Preisgünstiger könnte sein bei älteren Modellen ein gebrauchtes Mainboard Hauptplatine Logic Board zu kaufen. Für das Auslöten und Einlöten muss sowieso das Board ausgebaut werden.
Nachhaltig ist Apple mit der Schiene nicht! und mit dem Kabelbruch Problem am Display von 2016 bis 2019 - auch nicht gerade schnell am Reagieren.
