Repair information and troubleshooting for the Dell Latitude E6230 business class laptop computer. This laptop has a 12.5 inch screen, and was announced in May 2012.

Won't start when turned on

It won't power on it started by being intermittent about powering on and now it won't power on.. there is no display when I try to power on. The LED on the power switch lights up but that's all that happens. It has a solid state drive

Could you tell us what happens if you remove the hard drive/ SSD completely and power it without it?

Does the laptop have a VGA or HDMI plug? If it does plug one and then turn it on and see if you can view your laptop with your tv or monitor, have you tried putting a flashlight to the laptop screen to see if the backlight hasn't gave out.

Thank you for your answer, I did try this, and it had no display. There is one other light that turns on in the 'tab key'

Have the same problem here. Mine is i7 and it won’t turn on sometimes with 65w HA65PM130 Power Adapter connected. But turns on just ok with the battery. I think I need 90w power adapter.

Swapped the AC to 90w brick (LN90PM130) and all is the same. U_U

You may have a problem with the Power control circuitry on the motherboard.

It is detecting that there is Power connected to the laptop but then not allowing it to run from that power source.

If you have a Dell E6230 then here’s a link to the motherboard schematics for your laptop, which may help

As I said this is down to board component level fault diagnosis.

Try the DC DC Interface circuits on p.42

If the laptop display and the external monitor do not display then the problem is the Graphics Adapter on the motherboard. You should check to see if this laptop is in warranty with Dell, usually one year. If it is not in warranty then you will need to decide between the cost to repair or the cost to replace. The data on the hard drive is probably intact.

is it possible that the hard drive SSD is bad? the hard drive LED never lights indicating it never reaches the boot process.

If the SSD is bad then you would see the Dell logo. When a system boots it is done in an orderly way and the hard drive is probably is not active until other system checks are completed. This is easily tested, remove the SSD and try to boot, if the laptop boots then it would indicate the SSD is defective.
