MacBook wont start unless connected to charger

Hi,

I have a Macbook Air 13 2011 which wont turn on unless connected to the charger. After starting I can safely disconnect the charger and the battery takes over but I can not start from battery alone. Already tried a different battery.

I spilled coffee over the keyboard 2 years ago and didn't touch it since then.

Thank you very much for any suggestions.

Hi R P

Its sounds like you might have damaged the power circuitry. Does the power LED light detect that the battery has a charge when it is not plugged into a power source? Does the computer sleep on battery power or turn off completely when you unplug it?

If you did damage the power circuit you can run a hardware test to see if it detects any problems.

The main power circuit is integrated into the motherboard so keep in mind there is not a lot of options for replacing it.

Hi, thank you for your reply. What do you mean by power LED light? The green dots to check the charge of the battery? I have a MacBook Air which does not have that feature.

When I unplug the MacBook it does not shut down but runs normally with battery power. Also the battery charges. The problem is I cannot start from battery alone. For that I have to plug it in.

Sorry about that many laptops have LED indicator lights that show if your battery is detected when it is in sleep mode or turned off... I found a apple thread with a similar issue on a Macbook air that might help you?
