iPad 2 backlight turns off after Apple logo

My iPad backlight turns off after the Apple logo. What can I do?

I replaced the broken digitizer and noticed that the mic didn't work, so I didn't glue the digitizer (iPad lives in Survivor case) until I got the replacement. After six months of working perfectly fine (with no mic), I installed the replacement and then the backlight stopped working. Works fine for 30 seconds and then turns off.

I checked the settings and it looks fine (auto-adjust is off, brightness set to maximum). I replaced the headphone and front camera assembly and the new one didn't work either. Headphones work fine, mic works fine now as well, it's the camera which doesn't. It's been suggested that the ambient light sensor (ALS, shiny square on top of the front camera module) is damaged, but I can't test it.

I already sought through the site and I found this question but no answers to it. This iPad will be fixed or die trying. I'm willing to try something as extreme as shorting the ALS, but I haven't found the pinouts. I don't care for the front camera, I just use this iPad for sheet music, comics, pdfs and netflix, all of which are nearly impossible with no backlight.

Suggestions? Ideas? Donation of parts? Offers to buy my otherwise-working-fine iPad? Thank you for your help.

I'm thinking of shorting the ALS to fix this. My iPad takes about 2:30 to boot, the screen goes dim after about 1:20. I shorted the ALS and got a nice backlight going on for 2 minutes... then the screen flashed white and the iPad rebooted. I'm going to try with a resistor.

hey!

1) so im assuming you have pulled the part you installed out, and checked if it works without it.

2) it should not be your ALS, if you have auto-brightness turned off.

3) Blown component? If you have the ability to do these repairs, i shouldnt have to ask it, but if you ended up either leaving the battery on while working, or using metal tools, there may have been physical damage, or a short circuit that caused a blow.

4) There are posabilities of static feilds if not working over an antistatic mat, there may have been electrostatic discharge that caused a failure. (I also suggest a grounded wrst strap as well.)

5) Software? assuming you have tried a standard soft reset, (Home button and power for 15-20 seconds), you could also try a factory reset incase something in the software became corrupted.

the fact that you get the apple logo with the backlight is quite perplexing in all honesty. i work in a shop that has repaired over 10K devices in the last two years, and have never PERSONALLY seen this issue.

Thank you for your time.

1) Yup, done that. The assembly is 3-part, I checked all possible combinations: just no camera, just no mic, no mic nor camera, no assembly at all. Neither works.

2) Sounds reasonable, I already checked that. I tried turning it on and off, and adjusting the brightness, but nothing changes.

3,4) I'm pretty sure I powered it off and I usually don't have static problems at my desk. I'm pretty sure the damage was because I was too rough with the connectors. But I got all new parts, so that shouldn't be a problem anymore... unless the problem lies somewhere else.

5) Yeah, I soft-reset after every change, and I already did a factory reset.

And yeah, I also find it quite strange. If you could unplug the audio flex connector and try it on a working iPad, and confirm my symptoms, then I could blame it on a damaged camera and a bad/mishandled replacement one.
