Phone becomes unresponsive after replacing screen

After replacing my iPhone 6s screen, everything seemed to be working fine. But occasionally the screen will become completely unresponsive. Typically the home, volume, and power buttons don't work either. On occasion, they do. Performing a hard reboot temporarily fixes it. I imagine this is due to there being something up with the connectors. Maybe a pin or some dirt/glass from my old screen.

Has anybody else experienced this or have a solution?

I tried checking the connections and reinstalled the new display. I ensured the connectors were also free of dirt. The device is still freezing up. The old display was pretty much toast so I wasn't able to test it with that

Just ran into the same issue. Replaced the screen on the phone. Digitizer isn't reading touch anywhere on the screen. Tried several screens with the same results. Could this be a blown fuse, IC connection or something else? I've never had an iPhone 6s do this before. Reconnected the cracked screen and had the same issue (responded to touch prior to replacement)

I haven't seen this happen yet. You may want to open it up, and check everything out. You can test the old display, if it's operational, to see if you're still getting the same results. Make sure to hold down the power button, after you've disconnected the display and battery, to discharge the phone, before plugging anything else in. Let us know what you get after these findings, if there's anything else we can do to help

This is usually a software problem, not hardware. The buttons not working are a symptom of iOS freezing up. Closing apps one at a time to find the culprit is an option if the screen is usable. Otherwise an clean iOS install should fix it.

Another possibility is water damage, but the OP didn't say that was an issue.

Yeah, it does sound like he does have enough memory, for his phone to be able to operate properly. However, he did just replace the display, and it could easily be the new display that's acting up

Yep. I have for sure seen bad screens do weird things. But this one really sounds like a classic software issue.

Its the downside to working on phones now. So much of the hardware is firmware which ties into the software which can cause hardware to act up. At most I'm taking an educated guess when I first try to figure out what the problem is. Reality is that until I get in there and start testing, its just a SWAG.

For people new to repair and working on their own iDevice, a fresh iOS install is usually a safe place to start. Heck...a lot of the times a restore is the first thing I try but I'm not working on devices that I need to retain data.

You noted you couldnt test your old display. I'd test a different display. I know the home button and power button not working seems like an iOS issue, but I've seen displays cause over all delay or lag.

If the iPhone didnt have the issue before, then I'd bet the display is the problem.

Or the drop that cracked the screen also damaged something else...

I don't disagree, but the hard reboot fixing it temporarily really leads me to believe that a fresh iOS install is the next logical step. Yes, board level repair is a real possibility but I don't think it would make sense to go right to that and skip over software.

But I'm also wrong a lot...

Typically, touch problems and service problems start intermittently and a reboot fixes them shortly. Then one day they stop completely and only board level repair fixes them.

Freezing (no response from

Any button, not just the touch screen) in my personal experience have been CPU and sometimes NAND.

Must be sure though that storage is not full, as that causes freezing too, and that firmware is not corrupted. Those can be fixed by clearing space and restoring in DFU mode.

But in my opinion this could be a bad replacement part and a new one should be tested.
