Why is there no picture on screen?

I get no image on screen when it's plugged into my Macbook Pro. My Macbook recognizes a monitor has been plugged in but no image. Can I easily repair it?

I am currently experiencing exactly what Kevin Omura describes: all cables connected, recognized by the computer, USB accessories plugged in to the Cinema Display are functioning properly (mouse, CD drive, etc.). There's the flash of an image, sometimes an instant, sometimes maybe up to three or four seconds, then the image disappears. Everything else continues to function properly.

@Steve Luthye - Lets give this a try! Take a flash light pressed against the display, do you see the faint image of your desktop icons? If you do they you know the backlight logic within the display needs repairs.

I often encounter burnt power transistors or coils which are on the backside of the logic board.

So you'll want to follow this guide Apple LED Cinema Display 27インチ LED パネル修理 to get logic board out. Once out see if you see any damaged component/s

Thanks, Dan! Yes, I do see the faint image with the help of a flashlight. I'll give the logic board replacement guide a shot. Thanks again!

It may not be something that needs a repair!

A lot of people run in to this same issue and most of the time it can be fixed by a specific order of powering the devices.

First off go ahead and power down the Macbook pro.

Now make sure that the cinema display is plugged into the Macbook pro, all three cables.

USB, Mini display, and a power cable.

Now boot the Macbook Pro, and if all is okay with the monitor it should power on at this point with the Macbook pro.

Let me know if this helped!

Sorry but that reply doesn't help, I have the exact same problem. Display is attached to MacBook Pro with all 3 connectors. As OP states the MacBook sees the display but there is no picture so obviously the cables are all connected. On my screen there is a brief flash and then nothing which makes me suspect a bad inverter board. Adjusting monitor preferences do not solve issue.

Doing a PRAM reset does not solve issue as does an SMC reset.
