Phone shutting down after battery replacement.

Hi - Bought a battery from eBay, which is probably where my problem starts. Anyway, removal and replacement went mostly smooth. First time putting it back together I misaligned one of the display connectors and when rebooting the phone the apple logo was smeared across the screen. I quickly shut it down, found the issue and reassembled.

First power up it showed the apple logo then shut off. Thinking the new battery wasn't charged I plugged it in and it powered up and it worked just fine. I left it plugged in to fully charge. Unplugged and went about my day. Used it a few times and a few hours later I went to use it and it was powered off. Tried powering up and it showed the apple logo then shut off. Did the same thing a few times until I plugged it in and it powered up and stayed on.

Basically now it won't really stay running unless I have it plugged into some type of power. I can maybe use it for a minute or two but then it will just power off.

Is this just dud battery?

It sounds like a bad battery. The flub with the display connector probably didn't cause any lingering issues since your display worked fine after you reseated it. It's easy to miss clipping those in properly if you're not used to feeling it.

So this is a thing that happens often then? After I first got it powered up and plugged into my Mac and opened up iBackupbot to check for charge cycles and it showed 1 with good battery health. Can that be irrelivent if the battery is just bad? What makes a bad battery then? Do people usually try to have these eBay seller warranty it? Thank for your help!!

@jcskeeter313 I deal with it pretty frequently as I buy batteries in bulk, and can probably count on about 1 in 20 being faulty in some way. Sometimes this manifests as the battery taking a full charge, appearing fine, then quickly draining. Other times it shows up as the battery never taking a charge, or not working at all.

Any component you buy, regardless if it's from the manufacturer or not, has a risk of being faulty. In some cases that risk is higher than others, but for the most part, yes, this is a thing with batteries. As far as a warranty goes, I'm not sure. You'd have to contact the seller.

Touché. I guess I knew better than that but didn't want it to bed that way. We'll see what the seller says.

I can successfully keep it up and running just fine hooked into a battery pack. So I guess I'll be lugging that around until I get a new battery. Thank!!
