MagSafe 2 is not charging, but keeps the power

I have macbook pro 13" early 2013 and it comes with 60w magsafe 2 power adapter. I was working normally all the time and a week ago it started to act weirdly. The green light is always on, even if its not plugged into mac and it doesn't charge the battery, only holds the power.

At first I though its my pc problem, did SMC reset but still nothing. Tried with my girlfriend pc, its the same. Its not charging at all only holds the power.

Does anyone got the same problem and what should I do with charger?

Is the adapter Apple or third party?

さんによる

Mac is bought as second hand one, but as long as I know everything is original. From the state of charger it looked that it was used.

Have tried different outlets, but still the same.

What I could think of, that I am using it in Malaysia, there they British outlets with ground pin and mine is 2pin and have to use adapter to plug it in. But it happened after a month of using it here.

Is there an Apple logo on the AC adapter? If not, it is third party. Here is a picture of the pin out. Use a wooden toothpick to test it the pins are fully extending, they are retractable. Test with a multimeter for correct voltages. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MagSafe

It is original, it has logo and all the info on the sides.

The pins are working. Don't have a multimeter, but may go to the close store to check it. What are the correct voltages.

I have tried using my girlfriends 45w charger and it works. Tried to change adapter to the cord outlet, but still the same.

Download and run Coconut Battery to get a better idea of what is actually going on and let us know your results. Any watt adapter will work, but the higher wattage ones will charge faster.

UPDATE

Coconut says it is discharging, was the MagSafe plugged in when you ran it?

Better late than never, here is a correct answer. (I hope.)

Your MagSafe power supply's identification chip has fried, or MagSafe plug is otherwise damaged. Inside every Apple MagSafe tip/plug/outlet is a microchip which does two things: it IDs itself (as 45W/60W/85W/Airline and serial number) and controls red/green LEDs. Your MagSafe plug is damaged: maybe its chip is fried/zapped, maybe cracked from severe traumatic impact (not very likely), maybe damaged by liquid intrusion. I can believe in a short circuit: maybe minerals dried in a conductive path to LED, so that is why it is always illuminated.

What to do? Keep your "power brick" AC adapter, get a replacement MagSafe plug or cable assembly, and splice it on.

If you cannot find a used Original Apple MagSafe tip, then a non-authorised replica is acceptable. One will be better-off with a counterfeit tip spliced onto genuine power supply, than a knock-off power supply.

Interesting. Could you give a link to more info on that microchip. I've been doing Macs a very long time and never looked this up.

Another good reason not to mess with the MagSafe chargers! Just replace them with a new one.
