digytech, what are the last 4 digits of your computers serial number? that will help us to properly identify your hardware.

EVAN, with iFixit. Don't do that - you changed the description of the machine to what You think a 2006 iMac was until you know for sure. Wait till the OP tells us.

This machine series was notorious for bad capacitors both on the logic board and in the power supplies. Remove the back, it's easy on the most common A1058 models, just three screws: iMac G5 17" Model A1058 Rear Panel Replacement

Examine the "cans" for swelling, bulging tops and/or leakage.

There may but two button (CUDA Switches) on your logic board to the left of the Diagnostic LEDs in the center. One resets the machine the other restarts it.

Restart and observe the LEDS to know how to proceed.

LED 1 indicates that trickle voltage from the power supply has been detected. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned off and your power supply is working correctly.

LED 2 indicates that the main logic board has detected proper power from the power supply when the computer is turned on. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and the power supply is working correctly.

LED 3 indicates that the computer and the LCD display are communicating. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and video signal is being generated.

LED 4 lights only if the computer detects an over-temperature condition. This LED will be OFF when the computer is turned on and running at the correct temperature.
