Screen not working after replacement (NO WATER)

So my friend dropped her phone and since I've fixed A LOT of iphone screens with no issues I offered to fix it. There was no issue other than the glass was very broken.

I carefully uplugged and plugged in the new screen/digitizer. The new screen wouldn't come on. Tried to switch back and now the old screen won't come on either.

Nothing is wrong with the phone, it's still working. The computer sees it, all the sounds happen properly but the screen won't come on.

Any idea?

Google long screw damage to have an idea of what you're looking for. This sounds all the world like how an iphone 6 behaves after being "screwed". Thats a fitting name for the damage...

Have a look inside the nuts on the board with some magnification. If you see ANY copper, you're "long screwed" and have a visit to Apple in your near future for a $299.99 out of warranty replacement. Just don't tell them what happened to it.

This happens when you mix up the screw that belongs in either the top left or the top right (generally the top left is the one that does it) of the little plate that holds down the lcd connectors with one of the shorter 3. The longer screw goes down and digs into the logic board and essentially ruins it. There are only a handful of people capable and willing to repair this.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then trying the screen again?

When the phone is coming on, take it into a dark room. See if you can see any image on the screen. Also look around the edges on the back of the LCD, can you see any light coming out?

I have had the battery disconnected while I was swapping out screens which takes at least a few minutes.

I tried taking it to a dark room but there is no backlight activity. I even held a flashlight to the front which has worked previously on a nano that was water damaged but didn't see anything.

Any other thoughts?

What were the circumstances surrounding the repair? What surface material did you interact with the logic board on? Were your feet planted, what tools were used to pry the connectors off the board and to reseat them?

Try plugging into iTunes and see if it is recognized. If it isn't try pressing the home button and the power button simultaneously for about ten to fifteen seconds before releasing both, that should produce a response.

The screen was really broken but otherwise the phone was in good condition. There were no signs of water damage. I was well grounded through the whole operation but I suppose there is a small chance that I could have zapped it. I always use safepry to pry off the connectors and gently push them back with my fingers.

Itunes recognizes it just fine and everything seems to work except the LCD.

Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Disconnect the battery, reinstall the old screen, and then reconnect the battery. See if it will power on then. If it doesn't try pressing and holding the power/home button simultaneously while plugged in for about 10-15 seconds until iTunes loses contact with the device. Then release the power button and keep holding the home button for another 10 seconds or so.
