Can Bluetooth board be replaced with 4.0

I am wondering if Macbook Pro Unibody early 2011 can be upgraded with the latest Bluetooth board. Continuity is not working at the moment and some of the low energy supported 3rd party apps. I am getting mixed response on weather the Bluetooth board can be upgraded with the latest or not. Will the current mother board and other hardware support it without any issues? What about the connecting cable, will it have to be replaced also? What are the part models that are compatible with this replacement
