Can someone direct me to the wifi card on Early 2011 17" unibody?

I've been having problems with my airport card since my laptop took a fall, and I'm certain there is something physically wrong with the card or connections. (Airport appears and works every time after boot/re-boot, but closing laptop makes it stop functioning. Airport icon is displayed [empty], but all Airport functions go unresponsive. A few times it said the card was not installed. Seems like a bad connection on the card to me.)

I followed the guide for the unibody 17" MacBook Pro to check the card, and lo and behold the airport card is not located in the clutch cover where the guide says it is.

I suppose that was for a later version of the 17". Can anyone point me to the airport card in an early 2011 17" unibody? (It has a silver screen bezel, unlike the all-black screens hown in the 17" unibody photo on this site.)

If you're running Mavericks (OS 10.9x) wifi sleep/lid close reconnect or wake issues are most likely related to that, not a fall.

Are you certain it's not there (it's not very big) if it's not there where do the antenna wires go? FWIW the Late 2011 version of MacBook Pro 17" Unibody is virtually identical to the Early 2011 model except for a CPU and graphics upgrade.

Thanks Machead. I'm on 10.7.5 (not Mavericks), and yes I'm certain the airport card is not there. There is only black/resin coated hardware there with the antenna cables affixed to it--no IC in sight. The antenna cables appear to run through the clutch and into the main body of the computer. (There are several more cables than shown in the 17" unibody airport guide, steps 6-10.) There is a black plastic piece there that the cables are attached to, and which is sealed up.

If no one has any pointers, perhaps I will open this thing again and unwrap that black piece. I'll photo it if I do.
