Distorted sound from external speakers/headphones.

Hello!

So basically, I can't plug in external speakers or headphones anymore, as the sound will only be heard from the left speaker, with a really heavy amount of distortion that makes it un-hearable. The sounds from the internal speaker, is still OK.

I think the problem was because I plugged in a 30 watts amplifier, through the audio port, which now I know might have screwed the sound card on the logic board.

I tried repairing the disk, disk permissions, resetting the driver using terminal, etc, but nothing worked.

Is there a way to replace the sound card, or plug in another one into the logic board, or use one that can be plugged in the Firewire/ExpressCard port that could solve this problem?

Many thanks in advance.

A work around might be a USB audio Adaptor - USB audio works separate from analogue audio and have mic's and line / out ports on them.

Replacing the sound card is not complicated (different models have different locations for the sound card some are on the I/O board some are on a speaker/microphone board)… but… it might be the audio jack that's cooked and that is not a DIY repair unless you normally repair computers or small electronics. De/Soldering logic board components requires special tools, solder and lots & lots of practice (it's very easy to damage a mulitlayer board with too much heat).

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

There is no "sound card" on a laptop or netbook as the audio is integrated on the logic board so if the sound output has become damaged by overload or water ingress then its a new mobo that will be required :(
