Please help me :(
When I press the power button on my mac the light just comes on and turn off straight away. Before that I had turned it on and the screen came up with lines going down.
Is this fixable? And approximately how much? Or is it easy to do so on your own?

Sounds like you have a blown Video Card - which is not DIY replace/repairable. A DIYer can replace the entire logic board to which the video card is soldered that is however an advanced DIY project (you basically have to completely disassemble and then reassemble your machine).
Only you know if you have the skills to do this, and, if you feel the repair is economically sound (you could part out the rest of the laptop).

No - if you are out of warranty see if they will give you a Depot repair that is the best bang for your buck. It's worth contacting apple support as sometimes there are extended warranty coverage, and silent recalls.
