Graphic Card problem or Motherboard Problem?

Hi everyone,

Since 2 days ago my iMac 24 has graphical problems.

Everything else works fine, but when there are elements that require the graphics card for 3D, bugs happen.

The bugs are similar on Windows and Mac

For over 4 years, it has never caused any problems.

My configuration:

iMac 24' Early 2008 (EMC 2211)

3.06Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS 512MB

4GB RAM DDR2 800Mhz

500GB HD Western Digital

Mac OS X 10.6.8

Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bits

The bugs are the following:

- fixed windows

- 3d objects twisted

- black areas

- textures bugs

- lag

- freeze

Here are some pictures and videos for you to realize the problems.

I made several tests:

- Update complete

- Reduce the resolution to minimum

- Apple Hardware Test (AHT) [no problem found]

- Test several resolutions

- Disconnect the secondary display

- Formatting

- Relocation

- Testings with Windows

A copy of the last kernel panic:

The problem remains constant. The problem affects everything in 3D. I wonder if the problem is with the graphics card or motherboard.

In my opinion, the problem is the graphics card.

Is there a way to fix this problem? Do I need to perform more tests?

At worst, is there a website or a shop that I can count on to buy a graphics card new or used?

Thank you in advance for your help and answers.

Hi, check the link below....

Carl - Are you running Windows here to run your 3D game? If so I think your issue is the video drivers Vs the graphics board it's self. I'm assuming here it is not a problem when running non-3D graphics in Windows and running under OS-X is that also correct?

For John Savio,

I have an Intel iMac not a G5. This graphic card is for G5 model.

3D problems are both on Mac and Windows. I also have bugs with iTunes animation... I can not feel just a matter of drivers. I'm still testing with formatting and reinstalling. I give you a result later.

And I have differents bugs in non-3D elements in both OS
