+ | [* black] Using the Philips screwdriver, remove all visible screws in the metal panel where the keyboard used to be. These are all the same size, so don't worry about mixing them up. |

+ | [* black] Next, take a pick (or similar thin piece of plastic) around the edge below the panel. You'll want to stay above the USB, VGA and other sockets. Here, we open up the dozen or so click connections that keep the panel in place. |

+ | [* black] When this is done the panel is almost free: connectors for the touchpad and status leds still connect it to the base. |

+ | [* black] To take out the touchpad cable, flip up the black piece at the socket and pull the cable out. |

+ | [* black] The status LED cable is easier to reach when you raise up the front of the panel a bit. At this point it may even be possible to screw the status LED panel off, which saves you the hassle of getting between it and the plastic to remove the plug. |
