Porter-Cable PCC710B Needle Bearing Replacement

This guide is for a Porter-Cable 20V Oscillating Multi-Tool with the model number: PCC710B. Follow this guide to replace the needle bearing.

A bearing is a device used to enable rotational and linear movement, reduce friction, and handles stress at the same time. Bearings are wear-and-tear items that will frequently need to be replaced. When a bearing wears out, it will produce grinding, growling, or rumbling sounds accompanied by a vibration.

You can look here to see another way to fix strange noises coming from your tool, it may not be the needle bearing that needs fixing.

TIP: You will come across thick yellowish grease when dealing with these parts. The tool parts need this grease to function, so don't clean it from the tool! Bring a rag or napkin to wipe your hands after you finish handling these parts.

Before beginning this guide, make sure the battery of the tool is taken off, you do not want any power source connected to the device while working on this replacement!

Place the tool on its side so the orange and white warning label barcodes are facing up.
The lever and battery base of the tool should point toward you.

Use a 5.5 mm nut driver to unscrew the Hex nut.
If the Hex nut is not unscrewing easily- you can use a 3 mm Hex head screwdriver to hold the other side of the screw still.

Flip the tool over and remove the black screw holding the tool together.
Get a good grip on the screw by using pliers to pull the screw out of the tool.

Pinch the lever with your fingers and pull it up and away from the tool. The lever pops right off! You can squeeze on the lever, and it will come off just as easily.
When replacing your new lever assembly, make sure the black torsion (the black staple-like hinge) is oriented correctly.

Lay the tool on its side so that the grey and orange warning labels are facing up upwards.
Use the JIS #1 screwdriver to remove the 10 screws holding the tool together.

Lift the case off to access the internals of the tool.

The outstretched arms of the spindle will be covered in grease - so grab a napkin to keep your hands clean!
Grasp the bottom of the spindle and pull it out towards you.
The spindle should come out easily. If not, lightly twist the object left and right while pulling it out.
You must grease the new spindle's arms before the install or else these parts will overheat and break. In addition, you'll have to maneuver the arms of the spindle around the head of the eccentric shaft. Finally, apply a light force to snap the spindle into place.

Using your hands, remove the silver ring-shaped needle bearing sitting on top of the spindle assembly.
When replacing, simply place the new needle bearing on the spindle assembly shaft.
