Disconnect sensor now, or disconnect it later. You might find it easier to unplug sensor after removing it from transaxle, when it is less far away from you, then easier to reach.
-
Press on ridged tab to release clip/latch. Grip connector, not wires, and pull it off of sensor.

Transaxle speed sensor is fastened down with one screw, 12mm hexagon head. Use a socket on a long shaft to reach. Just sixteen inches is long enough, also one half yard or half metre works.
-
Observe the dimple in original screws which hold sensor together: these are JIS size 1 cruciform drive. This observation is only meant to be interesting or informative, not relevant to guide.

I have a 2003 toyota matrix xr awd and I looked where you told me too and unfortunately the speed sensor was not there. I also bought the manual for it that is for repairs and it showed the same location as of where you were showing and I am dealing with the same problem, no speed sensor.
2003 Toyota Matrix cruise control light comes on but will not set. Break lights work so think break switch is good. No DTC's. Speedometer works, not sure if speed controlle sensors controller speedometer. Don't want to change sensors randomly but still cheaper than diagnostics labor at garage which they would probably have to change sensors to solve too since no DTC'S. Is there an order of which you would change first? Are steering wheel column switches known to go bad on these? Any other recommendations?
I have a Toyota Matrix 2004 and when the car is cold the transmission take like 30 seconds to shifting and then go to drive what's going on with my car.
