Is it produces clicking sound? This can be software or hardware problem. Try to excavate the disk and connect it to the USB to HDD converter pocket, and read through it.
@oldturkey03 Without more info I'm cautious but I have seen HPs drop cheap SSDs when the NAND mapping gets screwed up, but can be secure erased and they come back. TEAMGROUP is one I know does it because I used one in my older 840 G8 🙃 - I was looking for an HP machine I could try and defeat Intune on by playing with some of the remote management features which had MDM I didn't check for back then. Even the OEM HP LiteOn IT drives aren't prone to it - it's mostly off the shelf drives with 3rd party controllers, firmware and NAND. Crucial/Micron is probably fine being they control the stack with the flash and firmware, but not the controller. They do not like really cheap low end budget drives. I haven't tested PNY, but like Samsung, Crucial/Micron and good drives like the LiteOn models PNY is probably fine. It's just those nasty drives from Chinese Amazon sellers and TEAMGROUP which fumble.
According to the service manual they are all HDD models (although there is one hybrid HDD/SSD model) that can be used in the laptop.
If the laptop boots OK into the OS (I assuming that this is the case) it might be more of a failure of the "copy/paste" function, corrupt system files perhaps - sfc /scannow might be the first thing to try
First, check if the hard drive is full or if there’s a corrupted file causing the issue. Running a disk check tool like CHKDSK on Windows can fix bad sectors

Can you tell me what is happing when you try to copy them, like does it just not or does it give you a error?
